New year, new generosity. It’s a resolution, you see. I’ve always been a bit of a skinflint …
But first, a happy new year to all my loyal subscribers and readers. And second, although I don’t normally do ‘personal’, I ought to perhaps explain that things have been a little quiet lately, mainly due to two house moves in under two years. There have been a few property (and interiors and gardening) mistakes, in other words, which have left little time for writing mistakes!
I plan for all that to be remedied in 2024, as I’m now settled into a new home, and in the spirit of kicking off a new mistakes ‘season’, I’m offering the first book in my Mistakes Writers Make series — that’s 50 Mistakes Beginner Writers Make — for just 99p, or 99c, in eBook format on Amazon for Kindle, for one week only.
For any new followers or first-timers, the series of books is aimed at beginner (or recently begun) writers of non-fiction, looking to establish themselves as writers of articles, news and features for magazines, newspapers and online media.
In a nutshell, rather than tell you what to do, they outline a series of mistakes which you may (or may not) be making, and guide you towards possible solutions to putting them right. Many of the mistakes are expanded versions of the errors covered on the blog on this site, and many are brand new. Unlike the haphazard nature of the blog, where I would write about whatever writerly errors were preoccupying me at the time, in no particular order, the books flow more logically and consequentially from one mistake to the other, starting at the very beginning with the basics, and then progressing through to more advanced writing advice.
I hope, if you spend a quid or buck on it, you’ll enjoy it, and if you’ve already bought it, thank you!
Do also let me know what you’d like to see on this site throughout 2024. Opportunities, mistakes, rants, competitions … I’m all ears!
